soozphotoz > Sleeping In - C&O Canal

I was in a real rush to capture this photo so it's blurry and not so well composed, but this camping couple looked so content that I took the risk of snappy their photo.

C&O Canal, Swain's Lock: I took a short stroll along the C&O at Swain's Lock which is always busy with hikers, bicyclists, fisherpersons, and campers (this time of year anyway). A sampling of more pics in my C&O gallery (Near Home).
soozphotoz > The Garlic and the Pea

I was mincing garlic early yesterday morning (for the last of the tomato sauce, not breakfast) and after tossing the remaining cloves in the stack of bowls, I was reminded of the story of the Princess and the Pea. Granted, a stretch to be sure, but aside from this, I spent the day re-organizing my kitchen stuff....so no other pics from my mundane yesterday.
soozphotoz > Paris: Man reading in le Jardin du Luxembourg

I failed in getting any new photos yesterday, but exceeded in having a grand and glorious time spending the day with my college roomate (from decades past). So today's post deals with one of my favorite themes--people reading.

By profession, I am a reading specialist (currently teaching technology, go figure) and could spend hours and days serendipitously catching people reading with my camera. I am learning to become a little more bold in asking people if I can take their photo (when I don't have my telephoto lens with me). It's interesting that when you are a woman "of a certain age" and tell folks that you are a teacher, you gain a certain level of trust almost immediately :)

On Monday the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair officially begins. Yesterday I thought I'd get photos of the empty stalls and fairgrounds. To my delight, the Midway set up was underway. I was the only person not wearing a "Safety is Nonnegotiable" T shirt...but no one seemed to mind.
If, like me, you love vibrant colors (even garish ones), take a peek at my other shots of the Fair being built in my Montgomery County Fair Gallery
And thanks for all the kind comments and encouragement. I'm so glad I joined this community as it has been both a learning tool and truly enjoyable to see all of your work.
soozphotoz > "Hey, Gentleman, I'm still alive so look elsewhere."

I went to shoot Riley's Lock on the C&O Canal yesterday and suddenly found myself in Hitchcock's "The Birds." These birds were as numerous as the ones in the movie (seriously, there were dozens and dozens and dozens of them), but they were also freaking huge. My first inclination was to high-tail it back to the car but there was no escaping without some photos. The more I shot, the more comfortable I became and got as close as 4 feet (or so).

I probably wouldn't adopt a vulture as a pet, but they were certainly fascinating to hang out with for a while. Vultures actually have ancestors in common with ibis and storks (so consider that the next time you get an invitation to a baby shower). They eat all of the decaying, nasty, gross stuff that no other creatures would dare touch...so that makes them Mother Earth's little maintenance crew :)
